Set the Context - Create a Scenario

A scenario is an object that represents an instance of an analytical or operational task that you are modeling with STK.

After opening STK you should be looking at the Welcome To STK! dialog. If the Welcome to STK! dialog is not visible, click Welcome to STK! () in the default toolbar. The Welcome to STK! window is an easy way to jump into STK either by creating a new scenario, opening an existing one, or learning about STK. You are going to create a scenario.

  1. Click Create a New Scenario (). This will bring up the New Scenario Wizard dialog. You can input basic information about the scenario here. Let's set these basic parameters for the scenario.
  2. Enter GettingStarted as the Name.
  3. Enter "A quick tutorial to learn about STK."
  4. Leave the default scenario time.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Close on the Insert STK Objects tool which opened when you created the new scenario. You will use this tool later to populate the scenario.
  7. Click or select Save from the File menu to save the scenario that you have just created.

Tip: STK will save each scenario in a separate folder with a name similar to the name of the scenario. This will prevent you from accidentally overwriting your previous work.

A new scenario opens, and the 2D and 3D displays open in the workspace. You can use the mouse to move around in the 3D Graphics window.

Click to return to the HomeView.

After you create the scenario, you are ready to populate it with objects, such as facilities and satellites.
